When knitting becomes an obsession

25 07 2009

I have come to realize that things related to knitting has become a total obsession with me.  I have already confirmed  that I am totally addicted to yarn, but I  must confess that I am now totally addicted to anything knitting related, especially  knitting podcasts.

I came across the following YouTube video on Naughty Knitterz that pretty much sums up the obession we have with knitting.  Enjoy the “Last Knit”  and of course, happy knitting!

Friday night knitting

24 07 2009

It’s been a very hectic week and I’m looking forward to sitting down on the couch with my knitting, a glass of wine and watch a really good movie .  Since hubby and I are off to see Half Blood Prince tomorrow, maybe it will be a Harry Potter night.  I am knitting up two more of the face cloths my mom ~ she’s going to be so excited to receive  a package in the mail loaded with little goodies, including the face cloths.   I will also be starting to design a hat to match my Painted Cables scarf pattern and hope to have it posted soon to Ravelry and Etsy.

I’m happy to report that I finally broke down an purchased a Royal ball winder and wonder why I didn’t do that much sooner.  Speaking of which, I ordered my winder on Saturday the 18th  from Jimmy Beans Wool and received it Monday the 20th.  Now that is what I can speedy delivery.  I love Jimmy Beans Wool and could spend a small fortune off their website ~ needless to say, I most likely already have.  Anyway, I will be busy this weekend winding up my stash and so far, I’ve made balls from the lovely yarn that I purchased from Jennifer ~ her yarn is so beautifully soft and I can’t wait to knit it up.   Her shop is on vacation until August 1st, but do check her out.   Many of her colorways are inspired by the Great Masters of art.

Happy knitting and stay cool this summer!

Cotton face cloth

While perusing the aisles of Michaels, I came across Lily Sugar ‘n Cream Naturals that was on clearance for 97 cents per ball and purchased two balls each of  colors Sonoma Print and  Earth Ombre.  I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with this cotton yarn, but thought a spa cloth or face cloth would be nice, so I came home with my purchase and looked through the many patterns of Ravelry.  I came across  Tabitha’s  Heart   ”Emerald’s Lace Bath Set“.  I decided to try out the face cloth and I’m so happy I did.  What a super fast project – 2 hours total!   I love the way it turned out and will now have to return to Michael’s to purchase enough yarn to make the matching towel.

Happy knitting!

Completed

I’m so thrilled that I just finished the “Radiating Star” blanket just in time for my hubby to give to his manager tomorrow.  It turned out perfect and now I’m going to have to make another one soon.  This pattern created by Alexis Layton is a wonderful creation.  To me this is a perfect gift to knit as a baby blanket and it gives such an heirloom feel.   For you gals that are on Ravelry wanting something unique to knit and give as baby item, try this pattern.  The pattern itself is very easy and very quick to knit.  I do believe if you had the ability just to sit and knit for 2 days straight, you would finish.  However, for us gals that work, it will take anywhere from 2 to 5 days to complete.

Radiating Star Blanket

It’s a perfect day just to stay home in the cool indoors, watch a Lifetime movie and of course, knit, knit, knit.  I’m working on a wonderful pattern by Alexis Layton ~ “Radiating Star Blanket” ~ for a baby gift for my hubby’s manager (he and his wife are expecting their first baby).  So far this project is fast, easy and will turn out very pretty.  I can’t wait to see how it looks when I’m done.  I’ve chosen Bernet Softee Chunky yarn in cream for this project, but I’m planning to knit a few more for Christmas gifts and will use organic or wool yarns.   This is such a neat pattern and reminds me of heirloom pieces of long ago.
