I have noticed lately that Kate Davies pattern, Owls, is a very popular design online at Ravelry. I seems that everyone, well maybe not everyone, is knitting one or has knitted one, either with commercial yarns or handspun. Even Katie over at the Electric Sheep (a.k.a. Hoxton Handmade) has made one, which has inspired me!
This pattern is popular for many reasons, but the main reason it’s easy to knit, it’s created in bulky weight yarn, which makes it a fast knit, and it’s quite adorable! I’ve also been told by knitting friends that Kate’s designs are very well written and easy to follow, making this a huge plus in my book!
I think this might be a fun project for my fall knitting and I will be able to use my stash of Cascade Eco Wool in a very soft gray for this project. But I cannot cast this project on until I finish my Vodka Lemonade , that has been patiently waiting in my knitting basket to be finished.

This pattern has spurred inspiration for owl socks, hat, mitts, baby items and more. One pattern that I thought would be fun to knit, is Owlie Socksby Julie Elswick Suchomel of Rhino DyeWorks. Julie also designed a fun pair of Owlie Mitts to match!

So, have you knitted an Owl sweater ? Do you want to knit one?
Until next time, happy knitting, crocheting, spinning and crafting!

I WANT TO KNIT ONE!
I’m glad I’m not alone !
I have Kate Davis’s pattern saved to my favorites. I’m a very beginning knitter (I can knit and purl and that’s it!) so I’m still afraid of this project, but it’s so lovely.
I wonder if anyone has thought to do a knit along for this sweater since it is so popular – that would really help a newbie like me out!
Hi Kasey! There is a group on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/groups/owls-knit-along that might be good to check out, but maybe it would be fun to do knit along here on mt blog this fall. Would you be interested?
I haven’t done a sweater, but those socks might just have to go on the list!
I love the socks and plan to knit a pair this year …. she says with fingers crossed
I had the free sweater downloaded from when it first came out but never got around to knitting it. When all the hoo-haa started about the Debenhams owl sweater, I bought the pattern and it’s going to be my winter sweater.
Hadn’t seen the Owlie Socks before, though! *downloads*
I just read about the “hoo-haa” about the Debenhams issue … that was sad but I’m glad it got worked out. I plan to buy the pattern soon and hopefully will cast on next month. I do believe the socks are a must to knit as well…. I look forward to seeing yours
I made an owl washcloth once- and it was really easy. The socks look to promise hours of enjoyment- love the color.
Kate Davies is great! I’ve been following her blog for over a year now… she always has beautiful pictures of the countryside, her designs are gorgeous, and she is a very nice person.
Thanks for sharing! Best of luck with your next project.
You’re so welcome Beth and thank you too! Yes, Kate’s blog is very inspiring and I love the photos she shares, and her designs are gorgeous.
I haven’t been brave enough – YET. Though now that I’ve seen yours, that sweater is calling to me . . .
Victoria that is Kate’s photo, not mine, so I cannot take credit! I hope to start one this fall though and hopefully you will be able to do the same
I sure love the owls! Here’s another one to add to the queue:

I do too and isn’t that the cutest pattern ever! Thank you for giving the link
oh so inspiring! l love k.d.’s patterns and LOVE the owls. i’ve made a baby sweater with them and a hat (for the mama), but i would love to make a sweater for me now. just not to in love with bulky yarn!
I think so too Lori and the projects I’ve seen are awesome. I would love to try Kate’s colorwork designs too. You could always swatch for worsted weight and try it that way
