Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? ~ Ginny from Small Things
It’s been a wild last six days as my Mom has been recovering from a stroke but I’m happy to report that she’s doing much better. It’s tough seeing things happen to ones parents but I have found that the power of prayer is a remarkable thing, my Mom’s speedy recovery is evidence of that.
Since I’ve been in and out of hospitals this month with issues with both sets of parents, I’ve managed to make remarkable progress on Vodka Lemonade cardigan. This morning I bound off the body and will be starting the sleeves.
As far a reading is concerned, I finished The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and now I’m reading book two, Catching Fire. I also picked up the latest issues of Victoria (Special British Issue), Love of Knitting Fall 2012, Knit Scene Fall 2012 and Knit ‘n Style Fall 2012. I’ve found several projects in the knitting magazines that I’ve fallen in love with and have to share these few:
- Terra Linda Cardigan by Rosemary Hill (Knit Scene)
- Agnes Pullover by Ruth Garcia-Alcantud (Knit Scene)
- Cable Best Vest by Heather Lodinsky (Knit ‘n Style)
- Ivy Cardigan by Helene Rush (Knit ‘n Style)
- Angled Cardigan by Mary Anne Oger (Knit ‘n Style)
- Early Frost by Tabetha Hedrick (Love of Knitting)
- Weekend Swoncho by Barbara Condon and Kathleen England (Love of Knitting)
I have a few projects being lined up for fall knitting, one is a cardigan for my Mom.
What are reading and knitting?

I hope your family are all doing better, so glad to hear you mom is having a quick recovery. The cardigan is coming along beautifully! I love the yarn you used. Thanks for the links to the new fall patterns, lots of great stuff.
Thank you so much Liz, everyone is starting to get better
I’m very excited about my cardigan and will be happy to finally have it finished ! There are lots of great new patterns for fall, hope you enjoy my links
Knitting is so useful to have around at times like this, isn’t it?
I hope your parents continue to get better x
It truly is Hannah – it seems to take the stress away. My parents are doing better, thank you so much
Love the cardi. I didn’t know “Victoria” still existed, I used to read that magazine when I was a little girl and wishing my parents would move us to England.
Thank you so much and yes, Victoria has been back on the newsstand now for almost 4 years. Have a lovely day
Oh my gosh, Tina. I’m so sorry about your Mom. I hope that she continues to do well in her recovery.
Thank you so much Amanda
Each day is a major step in the right direction and in time she’ll be better.
I am so sorry to hear that your mother has suffered a stroke. I believe in the power of prayer, too–staying close to God makes such a difference in everything. I am really glad that your mother is doing better, and I hope that she will make a full recovery.
It is such fun to see what other people are knitting and reading. Your Vodka Lemonade cardigan is coming along so nicely! I like the color you chose, and the bits of lacework in the design. Victoria magazine is one of my favorites.
Thank you for visiting my blog today :- )
Susan
Thank you so much Susan and I so agree that staying close to God does make a difference
It really is fun to see everyone’s projects and I’m getting closer to finishing my cardigan ~ hurray! You’re most welcome and have a wonderful day.
Tina,
If you liked Hunger Games you might want to read Divergent. It is a trilogy series too. I read Divergent & Insurgent—Loved them !!!!
Lori
I was wondering about that series Lori – thanks for the recommendation
fist of all I wish your mother the best of health. The cardigan is gorgeous! I’ve had my eye on that pattern and now seeing yours knit up makes me think I need to buy it!
Thank you so much ~ she is doing much better. The Vodka Lemonade is a really fun knit and I’m happy with the progress so far
So sorry to hear about your mom, although I’m glad to hear she is doing better. My FIL has had 1 major stroke and 2 mini ones so I know how nerve-wracking it can be. Prayer is a definite help, I’ll add your mom to mine.
Reading: Shadow of Night (#2 in the All Souls Trilogy). I’m loving the series…it’s got witches, vampires, demons and time-traveling (to Elizabethan London) plus an intriguing plot-line.
Knitting: Just finished a Color Affection, need to block it. Now working on a little cowl with some Manos Silk Blend – yummy!
Next on my list is the Zilver.
Your sweater is coming along fabulously! So beautiful!
Thank you so much Elizabeth and thank you too for your prayers
I can’t wait to see your Color Affection and your cowl sounds heavenly being knitted in Manos Silk. Lots of fun reading too. I’ve not gotten into the vampire thing, maybe someday.
Amen to the power of prayer. I hope your family health issues can be resolved, as in all getting better or learning to cope with the changes. Thank you for pointing out the sweaters in the mags above; I hadn’t looked at these yet, and now may have to buy these issues. I just finished the Every Way Wrap from IK, two dishcloths in seed & moss stitch combos, and started on the Morning Surf scarf for a friend. Have you read George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Fire & Ice (A Game of Thrones is the first part of this series!)? It’s a ripping good story told very well!
Yes indeed
You are so welcome and I hope that you enjoy the patterns – the fall issues are packed with lots of goodies this year! You’ve been busy with projects, good for you
I’ve heard of George R R Martin’s series – haven’t read the books but have been watching the series on TV. It’s really good.
I’m glad your Mom is recovering so well. It’s good to find some peace in prayer. Somtimes you have to take life one hour at a time. My Victoria Magazine came the other day. It’s a real favorite of mine. My husband said good news and bad news, your magazine is here but there’s pumpkins on the cover. While we get a beautiful color change in Northeast PA we don’t always look forward to winter. Of course we all complained bitterly through July when it was 90+. Most of us don’t have central air. Guess we’re getting crotchety.
Thank you Meghan, she’s truly doing much better
I love Victoria and I also receive Midwest Living, which had pumpkins on the front. I’m looking forward to winter here in AZ but I understand about you not looking forward to it in PA, it does get mighty cold. Have a lovely evening and a great weekend of crocheting
Thanks so much for stopping by at mine, Tina. And wow! Your website is a gem and treasure trove of knitting info!
Hope your mom is much better. Sending over lots of positive healing wishes.
Take care and catch you soon.
You are so very welcome Renee and thank you so much for your complements
Thank you too for your healing wishes, my Mom is doing much better
