I love old crystal and glass pieces and this past weekend I decided to re-organize my knitting room and use a few pieces of my glass for my needles and buttons.
I’ve placed my larger DPNs, Straights and crochet hooks inside three pressed glass vases and in my small glass horse, I’ve placed my needlework scissors and my small DPNs, as well as a few short steel hooks. I love the look I’ve created and it’s perfect for housing all my needles.
I picked up two matching glass fruit bowls and paired them with a small pressed glass candy dish to hold my buttons. I can now see the buttons and it’s quite a pretty display on my shelf.
A very long time back I found two matching bud vases that I also display my buttons in. They rather remind me of the button tubes at the yarn shops. I also organized all my beads into stacking cylinders that you can pick up at Joann’s or Michaels. Inside a Depression Glass sugar bowl, I keep my stitch markers and a few more cylinders of beads. I also keep note cards, thank yous, care tags and more inside each of the two drawer boxes.
A few weeks ago I purchased cotton cubes at Wal*Mart to hold my yarn. To me it looks much neater on the bookcases and it keeps the yarn from getting dusty. It is also a great way to keep yarn together by color, brand, etc… making it much easier to access for knitting projects.
My last task was getting all books into one location. I have to say I’ve shaken my head at this, I didn’t know I had so many books! In the baskets underneath the last shelf of the book case above and below, I keep all my needlework patterns, kits and fabric nice and tiddy, and stored away.
It’s been fun getting everything more organized and contained. I love the look and enjoy coming into my room for a bit of peacefully crafting!
So, how do you keep your knitting, crocheting and crafting organized?
