Yarn Along: Work in Progress and Of Course Reading!

Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well.  So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading?  ~ Ginny from Small Things

Not too much new going on in the knitting home front other than the fact I made progress over night on the front left panel of the Aidez cardigan and this morning I brought out my Kernel scarf , a WIP that I started back in September, to work on before heading off to work.  I’m hoping that I can work on one WIP in the morning and one in the evening to finish them both much quicker.

I’ve had an issue in finding just the right book to read lately and have many starts and stops, but have settled on the Buccaneers by Edith Wharton.  I’m really enjoy this novel and I loved the 2006 BBC production of this novel.  It’s amazing how many American heiresses were sent to England to marry the aristocracy due to money issues.  Since I have a real fondness for the Downton Abbey series, so the next book on my reading list will be the American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin.

We had a beautiful butterfly visit our yard too and it finally landed long enough for a photo.

What have you been working on,  reading or listening too?

  1. I am also reading Edith Wharton! I love the designs in both your projects. They are very beautiful.

    • I have the House of Mirth on my list to read Christine. How are you liking it? Thank you so much for the compliments, I’m really enjoying my knitting :)

  2. I’ve been planning to watch that BBC series one of these days. Your book sounds very interesting. I’m a reading fan myself, and have to feed my little grey cells on a daily basis, or my mind doesn’t work as well. Honest!

The color of your Kernel scarf is so warm and lovely, I just want to squeeze it. Beautiful!! Good luck finishing both WIP’s, :)

    • I think you will like the series Sandie and it’s available on Netflix! I’m enjoying my book so far and a big fan of reading too, just been having a hard time finding the right book to read. Thank you so much, I’m loving my WIPs

  3. your knitting is stunning. wow. beautiful.

  4. I love reading material from the cira that you describe. Sometimes I wish I had been born in the time of Ladies in waiting and such. The way they dressed was so feminine and inviting to the male eye, I feel. Love the lace pattern in the Kernel scarf. Back to working on Persuasion I am. Figured I would multitask a bit.

    • I’m a huge fan of historical fiction Blondell and I think it’s do to the simplicity of life, and like you the dress :) . I look forward to seeing your Persuasion!

  5. Gorgeous knitting and butterfly. It is a Monarch. They were migrating south when we were in NYC in Oct last year. They hitch a ride on the ferries and Battlesea Park was full of them. I loved it:)

  6. Janet

Your Kernel scarf is a beautiful color. I’ve had the pattern in and out of my queue several times. American Heiress is already on my list and now I’ll have to add The Buccaneers.

  7. So, I gotta tell you, I really did not like “The American Heiress.” I found it very predictable – maddeningly so – and I found many of the characters, especially the two main characters, stereotypical. I recently listened and/or read a couple of books I really loved. First was “The Secret River” and its sequel “Sarah Thornhill” both by Kate Grenville. They are excellent historical dramas about the founding of Australia thru the experiences of one family. Loved them! I also listened to “The Remains of the Day.” Also excellent. And I read “The Passage” and am now into the second installment, “The Twelve,” both by Justin Cronin. They are end-of-the-world sagas, which is never on my list of things to read, but these are super – he’s a Rice Univ. English prof slumming in this category and he is a great writer. What characters! And I just finished “Cloud Atlas” which may be my favorite book of all time.

    • Interesting to know about the American Heiress, maybe that’s why I bought a used copy at Goodwill. You’ve been reading and listening to some awesome books! I love Remains of the Day. Cloud Atlas looks good and isn’t there a movie coming out with Tom Hanks?

  8. I love the colors of your projects. I love reading novels that are set in England in the 19th century
