At the end of December I took the plunge and decided that it would be fun to start off the new year with a mystery sock KAL. So, I joined Kirsten Kapur‘s 2013 TTL Mystery Sock KAL and will be knitting along with others in Kirsten’s Fans of Through the Loops group online at Ravelry. I think this particular KAL will be fun and it will allow me to do two things, stash bust and knit socks!
A Note About Yarn Choice: This sock has a lot of stitch pattern detail. These details will show up best if worked in a solid or semi-solid yarn. Medium to lighter colors will also show the stitch pattern best.
For this project, I will be using my stash of Springtree Road Julep sock yarn in Silver Screen, which is a soft gray with hints of cream. I think this will show off the design of Kirsten’s pattern nicely. I decided to split my skein into two cakes so I can knit both socks somewhat at the same time. Clue 1, the cuff, is finished! I even learned a new cast on method, a picot cast on, which I’ve never done. It was rather slow going but I do love the finished ruffled edge result.
For those of you who love knitting socks and may not have heard about Springtree Road, I have to honestly say Maya’s yarns are fantastic and she always has wonderful colors to choose from. My all time favorite is her Muscadine Sock but do be sure to check out all her sock bases – Clouds Creek Sock, Emeline Sock, Julep Twist Sock, Julep Sock, Moultrie Sock, Muscadine Sock and Navarre Sock.
Have you started any fun projects or joined any KALs?
Until next time, happy knitting, crocheting, spinning and crafting!
