Wordless Wednesday and Yarn Along: It’s all about rest !

Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well.  So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading?  ~ Ginny from Small Things

Today I’m sharing a photo of our baby, Sparkles, who keeps us quite entertained!  I’m still reading The Map of Time: A Novel  by Felix J. Palma.  This book is really starting to get good and I’m at the part where the discovery of time travel is being explained to the two main characters of the novel.  I have to admit I’ve always been fascinated by time travel, just the concept to me is quite interesting.  I hope that this book turns out like I hope it does and that the sequel is just as good.

Alas, no knitting for a few weeks due to a bad case of tennis elbow (both elbows), so I’ll be enjoying reading and maybe a bit of embroidery.  I bought an interesting book today at Barnes and Nobles for ideas, Celtic Art: Methods of Construction by George Bain.  I thought this might be good for both knitting and embroidery.

What have you been working on or reading lately?

  1. I’ve embarked on a year-long project – a huge lace sampler shawl – for knitalong class I am leading at a local yarn shop. I have 12 brave students! As for reading, I just finished “Head Case” by Jennifer Oko – a kind of chick-lit, ghost, mystery – tons of fun! And now I’m reading “The Tragedy Paper” by Elizabeth Leban (it’s a YA title and very good) and I’m looking forward to digging into “Going Clear” by Lawrence Wright about Scientology.

  2. Q – Ouch! Tennis elbow is quite painful, and to have it in both elbows……

  3. Gail

And yet another similarity. I’ve had that same Celtic Art book for years. I absolutely love all things Celtic. I’ve painted some of them, my favorite being done on my bagpipe case, but haven’t yet had the time to incorporate them into as many knitting projects as I’d like. One of these days …. Get better soon, my friend.

    • Are we sisters separated at birth ?? Nah, just two true kindred spirits :) . I really love the book and I didn’t know you paint too!! I use too but haven’t done anything in years. It’s rest for me the rest if the week, Doctor’s orders.

  4. Knitting is going slowly and I’m eager to start the latest book by Tana French called Broken Harbor.

  5. Aw! Sparkles is so cute! What a great companion she must be. I hope that you heal quickly but do enjoy your time reading :-D

  6. Sparkles is just adorable and so white! I am afraid he would have a reddish tint to him if he lived here in Central Virginia where we have an abundance of red clay soil!

  7. Sorry, I meant to say SHE!

  8. Oh snap! I checked The Map of Time out of the library last Friday! And I think I’m in about the same section you’re at; I have so many other “distractions” (including more books! more knitting!) that it’s proving to be a slow start. If you favor steam punk, try The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack / Mark Hodder — well done!

    • So, how are you enjoying The Map of Time so far? I’m really liking it and hope that it ends well. Thanks for the book suggestion, I’ll have to check that one out :)

  9. Sparkles looks adorable in her little t-shirt. I would imagine she’s wearing something heaver this week though, as cold as it’s been.

I’m reading “The Innocent” by Harlan Coran. The book was a Xmas gift from a freind. It’s a murder mystery, but I’ve never read this author before. It started out slow and a little confusing, but it’s getting quite interesting now.

I’m really sorry about your “tennis elbow.” I’ve never had that particular problem, but I did suffer with carpal tunnel for some time, and there was no knitting for me then either. I do hope you will be hurting less and less on a daily basis. Sometimes the rest is good for us. :)

    • Thank you Sandie! My hubby was very upset that it had to go in the trash, I could only repair it so many times and after all it was six years old, so I think she got to wear it well! Your book sounds good and I might have to add it to my reading list. Oh that you so much for your kind words, I’m taking it easy and trying to avoid things that will make it worse. Oh carpel tunnel is painful and I hope you have recovered :)
