Yarn Along: Work in Progress and Of Course Reading!

Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well.  So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading?  ~ Ginny from Small Things

I joined Wen’s IndieWay Yarns group KAL/CAL earlier this month and decided I better get my project started.  So,  I made another Zuzu’s Petals using IndieWay Yarns Best Worsted Superwash Merino in the color-way Grandma’s Quilt.  I love Wen’s yarn as is wonderful to knit with and it’s squishy soft.   I do have to say that one reason I love making Carina Spencer’s pattern for a second time is for the simplicity of the design and that I can finish it in a day !

As far as books, I’m currently reading Kate Pullinger’s The Mistress of Nothing, which is fictional novel based on Lady Duff Gordon’s journey to Egypt with her maid in the mid-19th century.  In this novel, the maid, Sally, soon realizes that she has more freedom as her Lady’s maid in Egypt than she would ever have in England and she falls in love, a fore bidden love with an Egyptian servant.   This has been a fast read and I only have a few chapters to go before starting my next book,  The Third Gate by Lincoln Child.

What have you been working on or reading this past week?

  1. I’ve made two Zuzu’s this year and love it. This is such a great colourway for it, very pretty! I now need to look for something similar as it looks fab in these colours.x

  2. Wow, beautiful pairing of pattern and yarn. I’ll have to get some to try it out, I haven’t used that brand before. The book sounds good too!

  3. I haven’t really been reading anything this past week. I did finish “The Friday Night Knitting Club” last week though. The book your almost finished with “The Mistress of Nothing”, sounds like an excellent book. Not really sure if the other book you’re going to read next is my style but maybe I’ll give it a try anyway’s.
I’ve been spinning up a storm lately, so probably should take a break do some reading.

  4. How pretty! And a project you can finish in a day? I need to find more projects like that – I’m such an instant gratification knitter but lately it’s all been cardigans…

    • Thank you Hannah, and yes, it took me only a day to finish :) I too have been in a “instant gratification” mode lately and this is one of those kind of projects.

  5. Your new Zuzu’s Petals is gorgeous and I can’t believe how fast you knit it!

  6. I’ve had Zuzu’s petals in my favorites for a while. I might have to take a crack at it soon! I just finished a really major project, and I’m now going to start some socks (a different pair of Business Casual’s, actually. I had some lavender yarn that wanted to be socks, and the combination of the pattern and the yarn I had chosen wasn’t a winner.)

  7. Unfortunately, I haven’t been knitting or reading. I was picked to serve on a jury on a child molestation case. Ugh! It was draining and didn’t leave me with any energy for anything else. I look forward to picking up my needles and working out all those memories.

  8. Your cowl is gorgeous. Love the colorway! The fact that it’s a quick knit probably helps a lot. :)

I’m busy working on a tunic top for myself, and at this time I’m reading “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein. The story is about the life of a young race car driver, and his family (wife Eve, daughter Zoe), told from their dog’s (Enzo) point of view. The dog has reached the end of his life, and is waiting for his Master to “release” him to his next life, and he is telling the story of his wonderful life with this special family. Funny in many places, sad in others, but so far I’m enjoying it quite well.

    Have a good day :)

  9. oh that is so pretty tina!
