Yarn Along: Work in Progress and Of Course Reading!

Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well.  So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading?  ~ Ginny from Small Things

This week I casted on  the Lyme Regis Scarf by Kirsti Johanson using my stash of  River’s Edge handspun .  This pattern is very easy to memorize and I think will end up going fast for me.  I truly love the colors of my handspun and have to say it really is soft and wonderful to knit with.  I foresee more spinning of merino/bamboo blends in the future!

Deep in a nearly impassable swamp south of the Egyptian border, an archaeological team is searching for the burial chamber of King Narmer, the fabled pharaoh. Narmer’s crown might be buried with him: the elusive “double” crown of the two Egypts. Amid the nightmarish, disorienting tangle of mud and dead vegetation, strange things begin to happen. Could an ancient curse be responsible? Jeremy Logan, history professor and master interpreter of bizarre and inexplicable enigmas, is brought onto the project to investigate. What he finds raises fresh questions . . . and immediate alarm. ~ From Amazon.com

As far as reading goes, I finished  reading Kate Pullinger’s The Mistress of Nothing and started  The Third Gate by Lincoln Child.  So far I’m enjoying this book and it rather reminds me a bit of Indiana Jones mixed with Robert Langdon (DaVinci Code).  In other words, a fun adventure with mystery!

So, what have you been working on ?  How about books, what’s new and what’s finished?

  1. I’m still knitting on my Susan Shawl from the book “Stahman’s Shawls & Scarves”. I’m using some of my handspun Allistar Australian Bond to knit this Shawl. This yarn started out as fleece that I washed/dried/carded and spun. I’m also spinning up some Black Merino Silk, haven’t found a good book to read as of yet. I’m still looking though.

    • That sounds like an awesome project Ginny and isn’t nice to knit with your own handspun? I love knitting with mine and enjoy the fact that the yarn I use is something I created :) The black merino silk sounds stunning – can’t wait to see what you do with it!

      • I really love knitting with my own handspun yarn. When I knit with commercially spun yarn now it just feels so different. I don’t mind using commercially spun yarn and use it to knit socks, but it just feels so different. Now as for the Black Merino Silk it will probably be listed on my website for sale, like I do with most of my handspun yarn.

      • I do too Ginny and feel much the same way as you do in regards to handspun.

  2. OOO, I read The Third Gate several months ago. Very spooky! Enjoy!
Current reads in progress: Shadow of Night, the sequel to Deborah Harkness’ A Discovery of Witches; Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers (Mary Roach); and Catherynne Valente’s The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There. Love that title! And I just finished Ironskin (author’s name escapes me), which is rather odd; and Mercedes Lackey’s Crown of Vengence, which just swept me up.

  3. Beautiful yarn and scarf!

  4. I’m currently plugging away on a pair of Business Casual socks, and I’m reading my way through a really great series that starts with the novel Sorcery and Cecilia by Patricia Wrede, it’s basically Jane Austen with magic. Love it!

    • Oh your book sounds really good, I’ll have to check that one out. Good for you on your socks, can’t wait to see the finished pair :)

  5. Your scarf is really moving right along, and looking great! I can’t get over how closely it resembles the one in the Spin-Off magazine. LOL

The book sounds like something I would really enjoy. I’m going to have to make note of the author and title, and next time I go to the library, see if I can find it. I am always looking for another good mystery. :)

  6. Another scarf based upon Persuasion?! I love it!

  7. ohhh! the book sounds great! i love both jones and langdon. :) the yarn for the scarf is stunning, that is going to be one beautiful scarf.

Hey Tina! Long time no talk to! Your scarf looks awesome with that yarn – I can’t wait to see what it looks like finished :) I’m currently knitting the Red Velvet Reversible Vest by Sarah Wilson, aka The Sexy Knitter, using Red Heart Designer Sport yarn in the color Brick.(http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/red-velvet-reversible-vest) I can’t wait to wear it this summer, although it’s hard to imagine summer weather with all of the snow that we’ve gotten lately! I’m currently reading The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa and so far I’m really enjoying it.

Have a great day, lady :D

    • Thank you so much Alisa :) Spinning every day has really helped me improve on my end results and this particular skein of handspun is my favorite so far :)

  12. Wow, your yarn is beautiful! Looking at it makes me want to learn to spin someday. I’m currently working on my first sock (the Basic Adult Toe-Up sock pattern by Vintage Purls), and a quick Mother’s Day present in crochet. I’m reading “At Knits End” by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and ‘reading’ the audiobook of “Knitting Yarns and Spinning Tales” edited by Kari Cornell. Hope you enjoy your book!

    • Thank you! First socks are so fun and you will find that sock knitting can be quite addictive. Great books you are reading and listening to.

  19. That is beautiful! And your handspun looks so cushy! Isn’t it great knitting with your own yarn? :) I never get tired of that!

I do hope some of your reading bug rubs off on me, lol. I love stories, but I haven’t been on a reading kick in years. I do more of a look at the photos/flip kind of thing, lol.
