Thick n’ Thin by Rowan

There’s something quite pleasing to me about a single ply super bulky yarn that is thick and thin.  I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it rather reminds me of the texture and look of handspun.  Not everyone enjoys this type of yarn to knit with but I love it, especially the nubby bulky look that you get it your finished garments.

The Thick ‘n’ Thin feature of this yarn gives the knitted fabric a unique textured finish, made from 100% wool this fashion yarn is ideal for winter accessories, but will equally add definition to any knitted sweater.

This new line of yarn is available in ten beautiful colors, ranging from deep blues and purples, to mixes.  I recently was in my local shop, Jessica Knits and Crochets, and feel head over heels in love with shade# 961 Granite.  This particular shade is a scrumptious blend of soft blues, grays and terra-cotta, which lends itself self to an array of desert inspired colors.  This yarn is very squishy soft and would be perfect for any type of garment or accessory piece.

This lovely 100% wool yarn comes in skeins measuring 54 yards (50 m) with a recommended needle size US 13 (9mm) and a gauge of 10 stitches and 13 rows equally 4″ (10 cm).  This yarn currently retails for $9.95 per skein and should be available now at your local shop or online.

To accompany this wonderful new line of fall yarns, is a the Thick ‘n’ Thin Collection featuring 14 new designs by Sarah Hatton.  Inside this booklet you will find classic styled garments with sizes ranging from small to extra-extra large, and accessory pieces such as scarves and hats.

This collection of 15 simple garments and accessories showcases the beautiful yarn Thick ‘n’ Thin available in solid and muted mixed shades. The collection is great for beginner knitters having quick to knit hats and also simple and textured sweaters and cardigans, Thick ‘n’ Thin definitely has something for everyone.

I really have to say that I pretty much love all the designs in this collection, especially Comet and Aurora.  Both of these designs are highly textured and I love the cable that Sarah included for Aurora.

Comet -Using contrasting shades and stitches to create an effective and textured stitch pattern, with a relaxed collar and set-in three quarter length sleeves.

Aurora - Knitted sideways with an effective large scale cable across the chest.

Here’s a short video featuring the designs in this fall collection as well …

So along with this booklet, all of the Rowan Ambassadors received two skeins of the Thick n’ Thin yarn for review.  I believe most of us received one skein in shade# 960 Pyrite and one in shade# 968 Dolomite, which is hardly enough yarn to do much with and I still haven’t decided quite what I will do with my two skeins.    I’m thinking I might try my hand at a design … what do you think?

With that being said,  I have to say I absolutely love what Cindi did with hers!  Check out her blog post, Thick ‘n Thin Review and see what you think!

Until next time, happy knitting and crocheting!

The colors are beautiful, makes me want to make a chunky cowl. I really liked the design that Cindi did too! Seems perfect for the amount of yarn and contrasting colors.

They really are great colors Liz and the yarn is very squishy soft next to the skein. Cindi was very clever and I thought it was a great way to use skeins of yarn with small amounts of yardage :)
