The Aran weight is a luxury blend of 50% Wool, 20% Mohair, 25% Alpaca and 5% Mulberry Silk, which means that this yarn is truly scrumptious and deliciously soft next to one’s skin.
I recently received a single skein of Rowan Fine Art Aran for review in the color Rumba and I have to say at first look I wasn’t quite sure of the colors in the yarn but I loved how soft and delicious the yarn felt.
Rowan is offering this wonderful new Aran weight yarn in eight hand painted colors, which are vibrant and named for dances like Bolero, Conga, Foxtrot and Rumba. Each skein measures 186 yards (170m), with a recommended needle size US 7 (4.5mm) and a gauge of 19 stitches and 25 rows to equal 4″ square in stockinette.
This lovely new yarn is now available at your nearest Rowan Stockist, along with a mini collection of patterns that feature eight designs taken from the Rowan archive that were originally designed by Kim Hargreaves and Martin Storey. You can view these designs online at Rowan Yarns or online at Ravelry.
When I received my skein of Rowan Fine Art Aran in Rumba, I really didn’t know what to make of the colors as they were more vibrant that I am use too but I decided I needed to create a design to show off the beauty of this yarn.
I knew that texture was key in my design as the bright colors would be a distraction from any other type of stitch pattern. With simplicity in mind, along with the added crocheted edging, I created a keyhole scarf. As I began to knit, the colors of Rumba soon reminded me of a roll of Lifesavers candy.
