This entry in Vogue Knitting’s bestselling 60 Quick series brings together a collection of hand-selected patterns from leading yarn shops across the US and Canada, featuring the popular and versatile Cascade 220® yarn line.  Knitters will love personalized patterns created especially for the book by owners, employees and customers of America’s favorite yarn shops including Knitters Mercantile in Columbus, OH and Stitch in Time in Howell, MI.

You can’t go wrong with Cascade 220, Cascade 220 Superwash Paints or Cascade 220 Superwash, long time favorites among knitters not only for the affordability and durability of the yarn, but a  great palette of colors to choose from that are perfect for any type of projects.

What’s To Love?  This book contains a collection of 60 designs from 40 designers associated with yarn shops all over the US that not only offer quick and easy projects, but a variety of skill levels so both beginners and advanced knitters will find something fun to knit.  Knitter’s will truly like the fact that many of the designs included only require one to two skeins, have well written instructions, charts where needed and beautiful photographs.

What’s Inside?  You will find designs for hats, mittens, scarves, shawls and items for toddlers and infants.  There are also a few projects for the home, including felted bowls.   From simple stockinette to Fair Isle, cables to lace, there truly is a wide range of patterns to choose from for gift giving or for yourself.

What’s My Favorites?  One of my personal favorites is the Cable Cuff Mittens designed by Meghan Jones of Paradise Fibers in Spokane Washington.  The project uses a single skein of Cascade 220 Paints and a single skein of Cascade 220 solid.  The mix of cables and stockinette create a beautiful pair of mitts that are not only perfect for ones self, but for a gift!

I also love the Beaded Ruffle Shawlette designed by Sharon Mooney of Hands on Knitting Center in Redlands, California. This sweet little shawlette only requires two skeins of Cascade 220 Superwash Paints, a size US 7 (4.5mm) circular needle and 288 size 6/0 seed beads.

Last is the Snowflake Mittens designed by Trish Mitberg or the Knitting Bee in Portland, Oregon. These Nordic inspired mittens are very simple and use an easy peasy snowflake motif.  This project requires two skeins of Cascade 220 in two different colors and a set of DPNs in size US 5(3.75mm) and US 6(4mm).

You can view the entire collection of designs online at Ravelry.

The only con I can find, the designs are mostly for women and very few could be considered unisex or used for men bottom line, this is another book perfect for your knitting library and a wonderful addition to the 60 Quick Knits series.  .

About:  Cascade Yarns was founded by Bob and Jean Dunbabin, who created a range of 100% Peruvian highland merino wools, including Cascade 220 (a worsted weight), to offer knitters high quality as well as affordability. Produced in hundreds of colors, Cascade 220® is one of the most popular yarns available today. The Dunbabins live in Tukwila, WA.

Disclaimer:  The above mentioned book was given to me by Sixth & Spring/Sterling Publishing for review and the above opinions are my own.

  1. great review! i too love that beaded ruffle shawlette. i have no idea if i’d have a place to wear it but i love how the beads are incorporated into the ruffle – not just added as an afterthought.

  2. Q – Love the shawlette. Also the cuff on the mittens are quite wonderful.

  3. I never would have though to cable the cuff of a mitten in such a way, and they are absolutely beautiful. Someone had a great idea there. Good review Tina. I am not one to buy books of patterns, but this one looks like it would be useful in many ways. :) Merry Xmas Eve.

  4. OMG!! The 60 Quick Knits Series are some of my favorite books! I have got to get one. And you are so right! Cascade is my favorite all purpose yarn to buy. Always has been. The scarf I wear with it is the warmest one in the whole world! Loves it!

Those projects are awesome, by the way.
