I recently joined a sock KAL (knit along) in the Indieway Yarns Ravelry Group and was having a hard time deciding on what pattern to use with my lovely stash of Turquoise Mine sock yarn from Indieway Yarns. When it comes to sock patterns there are so many out there to choose from but I often go back to designers that I like, which is exactly what I’ve done for this KAL.
I decided upon Monkey by sock designer Cookie A. I love Cookie’s designs and the one thing I’m truly enjoying about this project is the easy to memorize pattern.
I started bright and early Sunday morning by casting on the required stitches but I opted for a 2 x 2 ribbing in place of Cookie’s twisted stitch rib. I really like how it turned out and it flows nicely with the design of the sock. I knitted 4 repeats of the design before tackling the heel and gusset. Now I only have about 3″ to go before I start the toe. I’m so happy with my pattern choice and I love how my sock is starting to look. You can also follow my progress on my Ravelry project page too.
So, here’s the yarn I chose for my Monkey socks, a lovely hand-dyed merino wool in the colorway Turquoise Mine.

Here’s a progress photo from Sunday showing they stitches I picked up for the gusset.
Here’s a close up of the pattern design:
If you haven’t tried Cookie’s designs, you really should. One, they are very easy to follow and understand. Cookie does a fantastic job in providing excellent written instructions that are easily to follow and she always includes a chart for lace patterns. I love her patterns and I finally broke down and purchased her eBook, Knit.Sock.Love that includes nineteen patterns for $16.95. You can purchase directly on her website or via Ravelry, which puts the eBook into your library.
The patterns are also available individually, but it’s much cheaper to purchase the eBook. Here’s what is inside:
- BFF
- Clandestine
- Cusp
- German Stockings
- Gothic Spire
- Hedera
- In and Out
- Lissajous
- Marilinda
- Mona
- Monkey
- Pointelle

- Stricken
- Thelonious

You can also join the Knit.Sock.Love Ravelry group and enjoy the fun of “baking” cookies!

So last week I asked for help in deciding upon a pattern for my lovely skein of Liberty’s Yarn Sockenstein (100% Merino at 420 yards) in the colorway Lilac. Thank you all so much for commenting and sharing your thoughts on which pattern I should knit.
I had a tie between the Nice Ribbed Sock by fellow blogger Glenna C of Knitting to Stay Sane and Sleepy Hollow Socks by Lori Law of Ennea Collective. So, I had to call in the hubby to break the tie and it looks like I’ll be knitting the lovely Sleepy Hollow Socks by Lori Law of Ennea Collective.
This project will be casted on after I finish my current WIP above. I do have plans to knit the others listed as well, they are all in my Ravelry queue waiting to be knitted.
Until next time, happy knitting, crocheting, spinning and crafting!
