Yarn Along: Work in Progress and Of Course Reading!

Still reading  The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher and I’m happy to say I’m half way through the book.  I’ve had too many distractions lately that have been keeping me away from this book, maybe this evening I’ll just sit and read and give myself a knitting break!

My project bowl is overflowing but I’m working on  each project a little at a time.  Keeps one motivated to have a few WIPs going!  I should be done with the front of my Cabazon soon, just four more rows and then I will start the back piece.

So, what are you knitting, crocheting or spinning?

I’m still reading  The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher.  So far I’m half way through the book and will be finished soon.  I’m truly looking forward to reading Debbie Macombers latest book, Starting Now (A Blossom Street Novel), which is sitting on the table next to the bed waiting patiently for me to finish my current book.

I only have three projects going right now, which is a good thing as that’s about all I can handle for the moment.  On my needles is my handspun Posies Shawl .  This design is going to be fun to knit and the stitch pattern is so easy to memorize!  I have to say I’m loving the fact I can once again use my own handspun for a project.  I’m still plugging away on my  Angel Pearls Beaded Scarf  and will admit that this particular project will be a slow going one for me  that will get finished over time.  One project I’m very happy with is my Cabazon.  So far it seems to be going fairly quick for me, considering I only work on it at night, and I’m looking forward to wearing it this summer.

Coffee on the patio and my Cottonista Triangle Shawl

Not too much has changed in the knitting world other than the fact I’ve made good progress on my   Cottonista Triangle Shawl.  I have only three full repeats left and I’m done!  I’ve not touched my  Capriole, so needless to say I’m way behind in the clues for this KAL but hope to get caught up this weekend and next week.  It’s wonderful to see everyone’s progress photos and Rachel’s mystery design is really taking shape.

I’m still reading  The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher.  It’s fun to re-read an all time favorite book and I think I might have to continue reading the rest of her novels when I’m all done with this one.  I just pre-ordered Dan’s Brown latest novel, Inferno, the continuation of the Robert Langdon series, and I finally decided it was time to order Debbie Macombers latest book, Starting Now (A Blossom Street Novel), which  should be arriving in my mailbox next week.

Have you all seen the new Craftsy class with Franklin Habit???  I’m so excited about his class, Heirloom Lace Edgings, and the new one by Anne Hanson,  Button Bands and Buttonholes .  I tell you truthfully, I’m a Craftsy class junky!

Yarn Along: Work in Progress and Of Course Reading!

On the needles in pink is the Game of Thrones Mystery KAL, which I am currently working on clue 2.  This particular clue adds short rows which has a few of us wondering if this is going to turn into some type of hood.  So far I’m loving it.  On the needles in blue is my Capriole mystery shawl KAL and I hope to work on clue 2 soon as the third clue is coming out this week – yikes, I’m behind!  The one skein of Sheepish in black is for a third hat that I will be casting on for this evening and have decided to knit the Button-Tab Hat by Marcie Nishioka.  I’ve made this hat several times for friends and it’s super easy, and super quick.

This weekend I finished The Alchemist’s Daughter by Katharine McMahon.  I have to say it was a very book with a lot of mystery surrounding the daughter, and main character, Emelie.  The first few chapters were about experiments that Emelie and her father conducted using the art of Alchemy but after that, it turned into more of a romantic entanglement.  All in all, a good book.

I’m now reading one of my all time favorite book, The Shell Seekers by Rosamunder Pilcher.  For those of you who are not familiar with this author, I would like to note that all of her books are wonderfully written, including her short works.  I’ve read this particular novel many times and re-reading it is like coming home to a warm cozy fire on a cold winter day.  Yes, it’s that kind of novel to me.

Yarn Along: Work in Progress and Of Course Reading!

As you can see, I’ve got several projects going at the moment.  What was I thinking???

On the needles in pink is the Game of Thrones Mystery KAL, which I’m excited to finally be able to use my stash of Springtree Road Philomath worsted.  I think this project is leaning towards a simple cowl and so far I really like it!  On the needles in beige is the Lizzy Lid, which I’m knitting for a friend who was just diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.  I love this pattern, just the right amount of lace for soft look.  This is the second hat I’ve knitted for her in the last few days but will be knitting a few more for her to keep her head warm during chemotherapy.  On the needles in blue is my Capriole, a mystery shawl KAL by Remily Knits and I just received clue 2 today.  I’m also working on my Cottonista Triangle Shawl, but it’s taken a back seat to the other projects I’ve got going.

As far as reading goes, I’m still reading The Alchemist’s Daughter by Katharine McMahon.  I have mixed feelings about this book.  To me it’s good, but doesn’t really have much to do with alchemy other than the mention of it here and there.  I’m almost done with it so I’ll give my thoughts about it later.

Shortly after posting last week’s yarn along, I finished up my  Lyme Regis Scarf and started to really concentrate on my Cottonista Triangle Shawl.  I’ve finished a total of four repeats and have started with my second skein of Cottonista yarn.  I really have been enjoying knitted with this particular yarn, it’s very soft and the colors are muted.  I can’t wait to finish so I can wear it !  I’ve also been spinning for the Less is More cardigan.  You can see my spinning progress here.

I’m still reading the The Alchemist’s Daughter, a novel by Katharine McMahon.  I’ve been a bit lax in my reading over the last week but the last few evenings I’ve managed to read quite a few chapters.  This book has a very interesting storyline and plot, one of which I’m truly enjoying.  I hope to have my review posted soon for Jerusalem Jackson Greer’s book,  A Homemade Year: The Blessings of Cooking, Crafting, and Coming Together, so stay tuned for that one.

An afternoon on the patio!

I’m quite excited about my  Lyme Regis Scarf as it’s slowly coming to an end, which means I can work on my Cottonista Triangle Shawl.  This project has been quite soothing to me and I love the pattern, it’s simple with just a touch of lace.

I finished up The Third Gate by Lincoln Child and have to say I found it to be quite entertaining, so much so that I couldn’t hardly wait to finish it.  It kept my interest and had a decent story line, one of which I truly enjoyed.

I’m now reading the The Alchemist’s Daughter, a novel by Katharine McMahon, which I have a feeling might be a good book too. The story centers around Emilie Shelton, a young woman who is trained by her father to become a philosopher and alchemist.  I’m just into the first few chapters of the book but can say I’m already hooked! I also received a review copy of Jerusalem Jackson Greer’s book,  A Homemade Year: The Blessings of Cooking, Crafting, and Coming Together and I finally got my  The Spinner’s Book of Yarn Designs.  I’m very excited about this book as it is packed full of wonderful ideas for spinning.  And speaking of spinning, I’ve also been listening to the Forgotten Garden by Kate Morten, which has been perfect to listen to while I work on m plying. I’ve enjoyed this particular author so much, that I have purchased to more audio books to listen to in the future.

This week I casted on  the Lyme Regis Scarf by Kirsti Johanson using my stash of  River’s Edge handspun .  This pattern is very easy to memorize and I think will end up going fast for me.  I truly love the colors of my handspun and have to say it really is soft and wonderful to knit with.  I foresee more spinning of merino/bamboo blends in the future!

As far as reading goes, I finished  reading Kate Pullinger’s The Mistress of Nothing and started  The Third Gate by Lincoln Child.  So far I’m enjoying this book and it rather reminds me a bit of Indiana Jones mixed with Robert Langdon (DaVinci Code).  In other words, a fun adventure with mystery!

I joined Wen’s IndieWay Yarns group KAL/CAL earlier this month and decided I better get my project started.  So,  I made another Zuzu’s Petals using IndieWay Yarns Best Worsted Superwash Merino in the color-way Grandma’s Quilt.  I love Wen’s yarn as is wonderful to knit with and it’s squishy soft.   I do have to say that one reason I love making Carina Spencer’s pattern for a second time is for the simplicity of the design and that I can finish it in a day !

As far as books, I’m currently reading Kate Pullinger’s The Mistress of Nothing, which is fictional novel based on Lady Duff Gordon’s journey to Egypt with her maid in the mid-19th century.  In this novel, the maid, Sally, soon realizes that she has more freedom as her Lady’s maid in Egypt than she would ever have in England and she falls in love, a fore bidden love with an Egyptian servant.   This has been a fast read and I only have a few chapters to go before starting my next book,  The Third Gate by Lincoln Child.

I’m still reading The Map of Time: A Novel  by Felix J. Palma but I’m nearing the end. Hopefully I will be able to finish this book soon as I want to read the sequel.  Yesterday I received a book I ordered, Interweave Crochet: A Collection of Our Favorite Designs, and have found several projects that I want to crochet some time this year.

On the needles is the TTL Mystery Socks 2013  by Kirsten Kapur.  I have opted to do stockinette for the foot in place of the leaf design and I rather like the results.  I’m hoping to finish this sock so I can get the mate done soon.  I’m also casting on  Business Casual socks designed by Tanis Lavallee today, and still working on Lover’s Knot designed  by Sandi Rosner .  Yes, I’m on a sock knitting whim at the moment!
